Pre-season is about evaluating players and determining which positions are well-covered and where the team may need different pieces or additional ones. After two weeks of preparation, Funes has had time to assess during training and the first two friendly matches what positions are fully covered and where he might need some changes. Some players who were initially seen as potential departures have proven that they can still be part of this Málaga team in Primera División.
Haitam, Motivated
One player showing great enthusiasm to prove his worth is Haitam. After several seasons dealing with injuries, the majority's initial thought was that the Moroccan youth player would need to find a place in a lower division for regular playing time. However, Haitam is determined to show those inside and outside the club who think this way are wrong.
During the first two pre-season matches, Haitam has shown great eagerness to contribute. Particularly in the second match against Al-Ittihad, he displayed speed to space, confidence to take on defenders time after time, and the personality to finish chances. He came close to scoring several times, showing his capability.
Wing Positions
After suffering through multiple seasons of injuries, Haitam wants to return to enjoying football and do so in Málaga's Primera División team. Finally able to start pre-season training at the same pace as his teammates, he is noticeable. If he continues to demonstrate his worth, he has a good chance of staying in the 2026/27 squad as a backup for David Larrubia on the right wing.
Currently, Málaga counts with Larrubia, Joaquín, Lobete, and Haitam himself at the wings. There is also the possibility that Ochoa or Juan Cruz could play in wing positions. If Málaga wants to bring another winger, it may have to let one of these players go, and Haitam does not want to be that player.
