The Betis-Málaga CF fixture now has a date and time. The Andalusian derby for La Liga's matchday 11 will be played on Saturday, October 31 at 18:30 at La Cartuja stadium in Seville. This will be the first of two matches the team will play in the Sevillian capital this season in the top flight.

This match represents a reunion with several familiar faces. In the Real Betis squad, which started the season well and sits third in the table, are players with a Málaga past. Midfielder Pablo Fornals is a product of the club's youth academy, while defender Diego Llorente spent a season on loan there. Also, midfielder Isco, a Málaga native and star of the historic 'EuroMálaga' era, now also wears the green-and-white shirt alongside full-back Junior Firpo, who was raised in Benalmádena.

Pellegrini's Context

Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini adds another narrative layer to the fixture. The Chilean has a prior history with Málaga CF, lending greater significance to this clash between two of Andalusia's major clubs. Pellegrini managed Málaga CF during its most successful European period, consolidating the sporting project that took the team to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Málaga's Current Situation

Málaga CF approaches this match following a difficult start to the league campaign. The team managed by Juanfran Funes sits 20th with just 3 points from seven games, having recorded zero wins, three draws, and four defeats. Their recent form shows two losses and three draws from the last five outings, underlining the urgency to pick up points. Before the derby, the team must focus on its next challenge at La Rosaleda.

Next Friday, October 9, at 21:00, Málaga CF will host Espanyol, currently 15th, in matchday 8. Afterwards, they will play at home against Real Sociedad on Sunday, October 18, and visit Alavés on Friday, October 23. The match at La Cartuja against Betis will cap a demanding October for Málaga as they seek to turn around their league standing. To follow the squad's progress, visit the squad section. The club has emphasized the importance of the supporters during this critical time, although the match will be played behind closed doors according to current health protocols.
