Málaga CF Needs Defensive Strength and a Midfield Contender

Pre-Season Amistosos Highlight Weaknesses

Pre-season is advancing, and with it, the team's weaknesses are becoming evident. Despite four signings -Juan Cruz, Fernando Calero, Carlos Dotor, and José Salinas-, the sports department led by Loren Juarros still has work to do to strengthen key positions.

The friendly match against Ceuta highlighted that the defense remains a concern. In the four pre-season games, more than two goals have been conceded per game, indicating an urgent need for reinforcements.

Central Defenders' Issues

Defensive weaknesses are particularly evident with central defenders. Many of them suffer from injuries and are not at full strength in the early part of the season, making it necessary to sign a left-sided defender with aerial power.

Murillo is expected back in October, Álex Pastor is injured, and Moussa also has injury issues. Fernando Calero had to retire due to an injury in his side. Recio and Einar Galilea are currently the only fit central defenders but both are recovering from injuries.

Midfield Contender Needed

In addition to a central defender, Málaga needs a midfielder who can compete with Izan Merino. Funes has tested Rafa Rodríguez in that position while Juanpe and Arriaza seem ready for the starting lineup.

Potential Additional Signings

Málaga could turn to the market to improve other areas of the team. If Dani Sánchez departs, a left-back is needed; if Lobete leaves, another winger would be required. Additionally, a more 'Dani Lorenzo' profile midfielder is sought for the midfield.

The sports department must expedite player exits to make room for these potential signings, which are becoming increasingly necessary.
