Málaga CF are on the verge of completing the loan signing of left-back Adam Aznou. The deal with Everton is practically finalised, as first reported by Nico Linner of BILD and confirmed by Radio MARCA Málaga on August 29.
The club has been working on this operation for about two weeks and, barring a last-minute twist, the 20-year-old Moroccan will arrive at La Rosaleda for the current season. His signing addresses a priority need at left-back following the departure of Dani Sánchez. The team's next fixture is at home against Athletic Club on November 29, as listed on the fixtures page.
Who is Adam Aznou?
Adam Aznou is a 20-year-old footballer, born in Morocco but of Spanish origin, whose career is closely tied to Spanish football. He was developed in the youth ranks of FC Barcelona before moving to Germany to join Bayern Munich's academy. He spent three seasons there and made four appearances for the first team.
Last season, in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, he was loaned to Real Valladolid, where he made 13 appearances before the team was relegated. Last summer, Everton signed him for a fee reported to be around nine million euros. However, his first season in England did not go as planned, with limited opportunities, prompting him to seek a move to regain playing time.
Where does he fit in the Málaga squad?
If confirmed, Aznou will compete directly with José Salinas and Rafita for the left-back spot. Rafita can also challenge Puga on the right side. The new signing's versatility is a key asset, as he can also play as a winger, a trait that could help cover for the injured Aaron Ochoa.
Furthermore, due to his age, the player could be registered with the reserve team, a move that would free up space in the first-team squad for two more signings. This is significant with the summer transfer window closing in four days. The current squad is listed on the club's squad page.
What's next in the market for Málaga?
With the Aznou deal all but done, Málaga CF's sporting direction is focusing on other needs. The next market priority is a defensive midfielder. In this regard, the name of Napoli's Jens Cajuste has been mentioned as a potential target.
Another name strongly linked, Nemanja Gudelj, now appears set to join Getafe as a free agent. The club also hasn't ruled out signing a winger in these final days of the window. The team's place in the standings will partly depend on how this market concludes.
The move for Aznou progressed because the Málaga CF project convinced the player, who gave preference to the La Rosaleda option despite having offers from Germany. His return to Spain, where he developed as a player, was his main desire.
