"The real sacrifice was made by my wife," his father Paco explained to ABC newspaper.

His parents never pressured him, something he greatly values. "There are some who are more excited than their own kids about them being good, and that's probably counterproductive," he noted.

Málaga's sporting director, Loren Juarros, signed him in 2023 and the goalkeeper didn't hesitate. "It was an absolute success to come," he stated. Herrero is the oldest player in a young squad coached by Juanfran Funes, featuring talents like Chupe, Larrubia, Dani Lorenzo and Izan Merino, all under 25. The club, which remains under judicial administration, has forged a strong connection with fans due to the squad's sense of belonging.
