Málaga CF bolster their wings with Juan Cruz return
Málaga CF have officially completed the signing of Juan Cruz, a 26-year-old Argentine-Spanish winger, who returns to La Rosaleda on loan from CD Leganés until the end of the 2026/27 season. The deal includes a mandatory buy option, making the player the second summer signing for the Blanquiazules after Fernando Calero.
Who is Juan Cruz and why is he joining Málaga CF?
Juan Cruz Díaz Espósito was born on April 25, 2000, in Quilmes, Argentina, and spent 11 years developing in La Academia MCF. He made his first-team debut on May 19, 2018, at just 18 years old against Getafe in LaLiga. After a stint at Betis Deportivo -where he featured 11 times for the first team between 2022 and 2024- he joined Leganés in the winter transfer window of 2024.
With the Pepineros, Cruz experienced a top-flight promotion that secured his place in the squad. In total, he has made 46 appearances in LALIGA EA SPORTS, bringing valuable top-tier experience to Málaga CF.
Juanfran Funes’ project banks on local talent
Cruz’s return arrives at a pivotal moment for Málaga CF, as they prepare for their return to LaLiga EA Sports under Juanfran Funes. The Málaga CF-based manager is looking to strengthen the team’s attacking wings, and the Argentine winger brings pace, dribbling, and left-footed quality.
The player arrives with a deep emotional connection to the club, where he rose through the youth ranks. His top-flight experience and prior familiarity with the team make him an ideal fit for the promotion project.
What’s next after Juan Cruz’s signing?
Málaga CF have completed their second summer signing with a player who knows the dressing room and the project inside out. The mandatory buy option reflects the club’s confidence in his performance, though the permanent move will be finalized at the end of the loan spell.
With Cruz on the wings, Juanfran Funes’ side enters pre-season with added assurance as they target a competitive return to Spain’s top flight. The winger has already reported for training at La Rosaleda under the new manager.
