The future of Málaga CF has taken a new direction following a shareholders' meeting this Tuesday, which solidified investment fund BlueBay's control over the club. Jamal Satli Iglesias, president of BlueBay, was appointed sole administrator of NAS Spain 2000, the company that owns 97% of Málaga's shares, and unveiled an ambitious €600 million investment plan.
The project aims to transform the club on all levels, from infrastructure to the sporting side. Satli Iglesias was clear about the need for swift and decisive action. "I want to see the project become a reality," stated BlueBay's top executive, who added: "We are taking another step. For me, it's a clean slate. We are going to fight for our project."
The investment plan
The total project amount is around €600 million and includes a deep remodelling of La Rosaleda stadium, which currently has a capacity of 55,000. BlueBay intends to secure support from public administrations for this project and has announced it will present a definitive alternative for the venue within a maximum of two months. The company also plans to request a capital increase to fund operations and open the shareholder base to small investors.
To raise funds, the group has divested some of its own assets. "We carried out a divestment within the group to raise cash and invest in Málaga CF," explained Satli Iglesias. The ultimate goal is to return the team to the elite of Spanish football, aiming for top-four finishes in La Liga, and even contemplates developing a second club in the Segunda División.
Sporting and judicial context
This announcement comes at a time when the team urgently needs a boost on the pitch. In their last match, Málaga CF earned a valuable point after drawing 1-1 against Celta Vigo on September 13th, with a goal from Adrián Niño. However, their recent form is difficult, with zero wins, three draws, and two defeats in their last five outings.
The Málaga CF-based side, which remains under judicial administration overseen by José María Muñoz, needs reinforcements to improve its performance. Satli Iglesias himself acknowledged this need, noting that the young players are doing their best, but the squad requires new signings. The next fixture at La Rosaleda will be on November 29th against Athletic Club, a match for which fans can check all the details on our fixtures page.
The club's administrative situation, despite the change in shareholder leadership, remains subject to judicial supervision. BlueBay insists on the credibility of its proposal and the need for unanimous support to push it forward. "Less talk and more action on the points. Everyone needs to support us," concluded the president. Supporters can follow the evolution of the squad and any potential new arrivals in our squad section.
